Facial rejuvenation acupuncture has gained popularity for being a natural way to brighten, smooth, tighten, even, and lift the skin. It uses the principles of Chinese medicine, as well as locally placed needles to stimulate Qi, blood flow, and collagen production. Needles are inserted into the face, ears, scalp, and body along traditional meridians to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. True to naturopathic medicine, facial rejuvenation acupuncture focuses on the individual concerns of the patient. Using principles of Chinese medicine, points specific to different organ systems and the individual needs are stimulated for the best results.
What are the benefits?
Benefits include increased facial circulation and collagen production, improved muscle tone, tightening of pores, brightening of complexion, improved colour, a diminishing effect on fine lines and wrinkles, a decrease in puffiness, and a balancing effect on hormonal skin concerns.
What is a typical treatment course?
A course of treatments consists of 10-15 treatments, but 12 are generally sufficient for most people. Treatments are best scheduled 1-2 times per week (for ~6-12 weeks) and each visit is anywhere from 1-1.5 hours in length.
Is facial rejuvenation acupuncture painful?
You may experience some bleeding, bruising, and pain/discomfort during needle insertion. Needles are inserted in a fashion that should decrease or eliminate pain. However, there are always areas that are naturally more sensitive.
When can I expect to see results?
Results may be seen as early as the first treatment, but it is typically around the 7th treatment that results are more dramatic and lasting. In some exceptionally difficult cases, the course of treatments may need to be repeated again.
It cannot be predicted the actual outcome or how long the effects will last. Factors such as age and lifestyle have a great effect on maintaining the results. After the initial round of treatments, maintenance sessions can be administered as desired.
What are the qualifications of the practitioner?
The practitioner must first be trained in acupuncture and Chinese medicine for 4-5 years at an accredited institution. They are then trained and certified specifically in facial rejuvenation acupuncture.
Is it suitable for me?
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is contraindicated in patients with pituitary tumors, hypertension, migraines, diabetes, epilepsy and seizures, dizziness, tinnitus, bleeding concerns, excessive bruising, and in serious health conditions (cancer, AIDS, acute hepatitis, and coronary disease).
Facial acupuncture should not be administered during pregnancy, acute flus and colds, acute herpes outbreaks, acute allergic reactions, and sunburn.
